Position Description: Community Outreach Lead

Estimated Number of Hours of Work Each Week: Approximately 2-3 hours
Term*: Two years, elected in even years

Position Objective

We recognize all Executive Leadership Team members have community connections and relationships. This position acts as a committee outreach liaison, working in a collaborative partnership with other elected officers and committee leads to advance HAPPEN’s chartered purpose and goals. Participation and work can be completed virtually; no in-person attendance is required.

Role

 

  • Engages with state government stakeholders, employees, and community partners.
  • Develops relationships with the Native Hawaiian, Asian, and Pacific Islander communities and organizations on outreach events and activities that includes and embraces all cultures within the HAPPEN communities.
  • Collaborate with Policy Lead on training/speakers involving state and local government stakeholders and ANHPI advocacy organizations, CAPAA, Office Equity and the Governor’s Office.
  • Facilitate regular community outreach committee meetings, including setting goals, agendas, action items, etc.
  • Delegate work and oversee the timely completion of deliverables.
  • Recruit committee members who can assist in:
  • Identifying potential training content or topics for general membership meetings and/or special events.
  • Determining if HAPPEN is represented at ANHPI community workshops, training, heritage month, Lunar New Year, etc. Events.
  • Soliciting community members to present at general membership meetings or special events.
  • Identifying external historical and cultural events and opportunities. These can be shared with the Communications team for inclusion in the HAPPEN website, bulletins, and social media.
  • Assist in making decisions on relevant content and identifying and vetting speakers.
  • Assist in responding to requests for HAPPEN collaboration, participation, presentations, and training.
  • Advocate for and on behalf of HAPPEN membership and their communities.
  • Participate in the decision-making process regarding when and how to share information and support issues.
  • Work collaboratively with Communications to disseminate information.
  • Elevate complex and/or controversial issues to the Executive Sponsor and the Office of Financial Management (OFM).
  • Provide information on committee activities to be included in the annual report.
  • Be on an antiracist journey and model this behavior for membership.
  • Serve on the Executive Committee.

Tools and Resources

The person is expected to coordinate with their agency’s leadership for the flexibility to do this work during their work time. If the position is overtime eligible, the person will need to create an agreement with their supervisor to ensure this work does not result in unauthorized overtime. The details of that agreement may differ based on agency and specific job duties. The person will be allowed to use their agency computer and other resources for this work, as appropriate and as required.
